MALIBU, Calif. (AP) -- Lindsay Bowen scored 20 points and Liz
Shimek had 19 rebounds to lead No. 24 Michigan State to a 71-55
victory over Pepperdine on Wednesday night.
Michigan State (7-1) used an 18-3 run midway through the first
half to pull away from the Waves and led 40-26 at halftime.
Pepperdine opened the second half with a 17-8 run that made it
48-43 with 8:08 to go. Nicole Funn, who finished with 14 points,
capped the run with a jumper.
But the Spartans went on a 10-2 run to make it 58-45 with 4:41
Shandrika Lee had 16 points for Pepperdine (2-5), which has lost
to four ranked teams this season.
Rene Haynes had 14 points and Shimek added 12 for the Spartans,
who outrebounded the Waves 43-32. Pepperdine had a season-low 11
turnovers, while Michigan State had 22.
