Arizona wins 19th straight at home

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Shawntinice Polk had 19 points and 15 rebounds, and Arizona extended its home winning streak to 19 by beating Washington (No. 24 ESPN/USA Today) 89-74 Saturday.

The Wildcats (9-2, 1-0 Pac-10) are tied with Purdue and Western Illinois for the seventh-longest active winning streak at home.

The double-double was the third of the season and 24th career for Polk, a sophomore.

Dee Dee Wheeler also had 19 points, while Aimee Grzyb and Natalie Jones had 17 each.

Giuliana Mendiola led Washington (7-3, 0-1) with 27 points, scoring 14 of the Huskies' first 20.

Gioconda Mendiola had 15 points, Andrea Lalum 14 and Jill Bell 11.

Arizona scored the final four points of the first half and five straight after intermission to take a 46-29 lead that proved insurmountable. Grzyb extended the lead to 73-46 with a 3-pointer several minutes later.

Washington made a 20-7 run to close to within 80-66 with 4:07 remaining, but another outside jumper by Grzyb ended the comeback bid.
