All five Virginia Tech starters score in double figures


BLACKSBURG, Va. (Ticker) -- Ieva Kublina scored 17 points
to lead all five starters in double figures as No. 23 Virginia
Tech defeated No. 19 Boston College, 80-64, in Big East
Conference action.

Kublina scored 15 of her points in the second half as the Hokies
(15-3, 4-3 Big East) outscored the Eagles, 49-31, over the
final 20 minutes. The senior forward, who was a preseason
All-Big East First Team selection, drained her only 3-point
attempt and finished 7-for-14 from the floor.

Carrie Mason and Dawn Chriss each went 6-for-6 from the foul
line as Virginia Tech connected on 23 of its 27 free-throw
attempts. Mason finished with 16 points while Chriss and Erin
Gibson each ended with 14.

Kerri Gardin rounded out the starters in double figures with 13
points for the Hokies, who improved to 5-2 in the all-time
series with Boston College. Gardin also pulled down nine
rebounds and recorded three steals.

Amber Jacobs scored 17 points to lead the Eagles (13-4, 3-3 Big
East), who led, 33-31, at the half but eventually lost for the
third time in their last four games.

Clare Droesch added 10 points and three steals off the bench for
Boston College.
