FORT WORTH, Texas (AP) -- Sancho Lyttle had 34 points and 11
rebounds, and Chandi Jones added 25 points to help Houston (No. 12 ESPN/USA Today, No. 11 AP) beat Cincinnati 84-67 Friday in the quarterfinals of the Conference USA women's tournament.
Lyttle was 15-of-19 from the field, including a breakaway after
a steal. She scored 13 points as Houston (25-3) built a 22-10 lead
Valerie King led Cincinnati (15-15) with 25 points, hitting 7 of
12 3-point attempts. She broke the Conference USA record for
3-pointers made, finishing with 335 in her career.
Cincinnati kept it close until Houston put the game away with a
21-10 run midway through the second half. Lyttle scored 11 points
during the run to put Houston up 69-55.
A 3-pointer by King and back-to-back layups by Treasure
Humphries had pulled Cincinnati to within 48-45 before the run.
The Bearcats also kept it close in the first half.
King hit a 3-pointer as she was fouled and added a free throw to
cut the lead to 33-31 with 1:40 left in the half. But Houston,
which led by as many as 13 in the half, scored the final seven
points to lead 40-31 at halftime.
Houston faces Marquette, a 74-70 winner Friday over No. 24
DePaul, in the semifinals Saturday.
