Haynie, Shimek pace Spartans with 19 each

EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Kristin Haynie and Liz Shimek each had 19 points to help No. 15 Michigan State rally for an 82-78 overtime win over Boston College (No. 17 ESPN/USA Today, No. 18 AP) on Sunday in the Spartan Classic championship game.

Haynie, the tournament MVP, had six points in overtime and finished with nine rebounds and four steals. Shimek, an all-tournament choice, added a game-high 11 rebounds and had four blocked shots for the Spartans (2-0).

Michigan State trailed 67-61 but scored nine straight points to take a three-point lead in the final minute. The Eagles' Brooke Queenan hit a 3-pointer from the top of the key with 17 seconds left to tie it at 70.

The Spartans scored the first six points of overtime and held on thanks to Haynie's four free throws down the stretch.

All-tournament selection Kelli Roehrig had 14 points, Lindsay Bowen added 12 and Rene Haynes chipped in 10 for Michigan State.

Jessalyn Deveny had 17 points and Kathrin Ress added 16 for the Eagles (1-1). Both players had 10 rebounds and made the all-tournament team.
