    Ajavon's 29 points power Rutgers

    CHARLOTTE AMALIE, U.S. Virgin Islands -- Freshman guard Matee Ajavon scored 29 points to lead Rutgers (No. 18 ESPN/USA Today; No. 17 AP) over South Dakota State 68-50 on Thursday in the opening game of the Paradise Jam tournament in the U.S. Virgin Islands.

    Chelsea Newton added 12 points and five rebounds for Rutgers (2-0), while teammate Michelle Campbell had 11 points and six rebounds.

    Megan Vogel led the Jackrabbits (3-1) with 15 points.

    South Dakota State tied the game at 24-all before Rutgers used a strong second half to seize control.
