Michigan State advances to Rainbow Wahine title game

HONOLULU (AP) -- Kelli Roehrig had 23 points and 12 rebounds to lead No. 13 Michigan State to an 81-59 victory over Santa Clara on Saturday in the semifinals of the Rainbow Wahine Classic.

The Spartans (4-0) will meet Texas Christian in the championship game Sunday. The Horned Frogs upset No. 3 Georgia 64-63 in the other semifinal.

Liz Shimek added 19 points for Michigan State, which outrebounded undersized Santa Clara 55-32.

The Broncos (1-2) opened the second half with four 3-pointers to close to 47-38 with 15:25 remaining. But Roehrig and Shimek scored all of the Spartans' points during a 16-6 run over the next 5 minutes to put the game out of reach.

Ashley Gonnerman and Quinn Thomas scored 16 apiece to lead the Broncos.

The Spartans used a pair of runs to distance themselves from the Broncos in the first half. An 8-2 run gave MSU a 24-16 lead with 8:48 remaining. After a pair of free throws by Santa Clara's Tracey Walker, the Spartans closed out the final eight minutes of the half on a 12-4 run to lead 36-22 at halftime.
