Earley scores 12 straight points in second half

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Ashley Earley scored 12 straight points in the second half and finished with 22, and Vanderbilt (No. 13 ESPN/USA Today; No. 15 AP) defeated Troy 78-50 Sunday for its 48th straight home victory over a nonconference opponent.

Carla Thomas finished with 15 points for Vanderbilt (11-1), Abi Ramsey added 14 and Dee Davis scored 12.

Amy Lewis led Troy (2-7) with 17 points.

Vanderbilt broke the contest open midway through the first half, scoring 11 straight points to extend a 17-10 lead to 28-10.

Troy ended the run on a 3-point basket by Laura Lee Holman with 6:35 remaining, the first of three straight 3s, but never got closer than 15 points before the break.

The Commodores extended their lead to 39-19 on Ramsey's 3-pointer with 2:42 left in the half, but Audrey Muse scored a minute later and Troy was with 18 points at the break.

With Vanderbilt leading 56-34, Earley went on her run. The senior forward hit all six of her shots over a 5-minute span, giving the Commodores a 68-44 lead at the 7:19 mark.

Vanderbilt took a 76-46 lead with three minutes remaining on a 3-pointer by Caroline Williams.
