BERKELEY, Calif. (AP) -- Leigh Gregory and Jessica Lawson scored 14 points apiece to help California defeat Washington State 64-56 on Tuesday night.

The Bears (8-5, 2-2 Pac-10) never trailed, jumping out to a 12-2 lead. Washington State (4-9, 0-4) cut the margin to four late in the first half, but never got any closer.

Charmaine Jones, Jessica Perry and Kate Benz led the Cougars with 11 points each.

Kiki Williams added 11 for California. Lawson and Gregory continually hurt the Cougars in the paint, combining to go 12-for-23 from the field.

The 6-foot-4 Lawson sat out most of the first half after picking up two fouls in the first minute, and scored her 14 points in just 12 minutes.

Cal's Kristin Iwanaga made her only 3-pointer of the night to remain the nation's best shooter from beyond the arc. She has made 25 of 36 (69.4 percent) 3-pointers. She's also third in the nation from the free-throw line, at 93.5 percent.
