BLACKSBURG, Va. (Ticker) -- Erin Gibson had 10 of her 14
points in the opening half as Virginia Tech (No. 25 ESPN/USA Today) raced to an
early lead and rolled to an 80-67 triumph over Fordham.
Reserve Kerry Gardin added 13 points and Chriss Dawn had 11 for
Virginia Tech (11-2), which led 42-25 after 20 minutes. The
Hokies shot 64 percent (16-of-25) in the first half, including
5-of-6 from 3-point range.
Virginia Tech, which lost its focus in the second half, did hold
a 16-3 edge in points scored from the line and outrebounded
Jada Jefferson led Fordham (4-10) with 21 points and Monica Mack
added 20. The Rams missed 8-of-10 3-point attempts and
committed 15 turnovers.
