South Carolina trailed by as many as 31

NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Caroline Williams scored 11 of her career-high 17 points in the first 11 minutes to help Vanderbilt (No. 12 ESPN/USA Today, No. 16 AP) beat South Carolina 88-43 on Sunday.

Vanderbilt (12-2, 1-0 Southeastern Conference) took a 29-9 lead with 8:21 remaining in the first half on a Carla Thomas three-point play. Williams contributed to the early spurt with 4-of-4 shooting off the bench, including three 3-pointers.

South Carolina (5-10, 0-2) hit just 3-of-22 first-half field-goal attempts and trailed by as many as 31 before the break. It was 43-13 at halftime.

In addition to Williams, whose previous career high was 10 points, Vanderbilt got 17 points from Dee Davis, 16 from Thomas and 15 points and 11 rebounds from Ashley Earley.

Lauren Simms led South Carolina with 13 points.
