Wecker has hand in every part of triumph

MANHATTAN, Kan. (AP) -- Kendra Wecker had 25 points and six steals, leading Kansas State (No. 22 ESPN/USA Today, No. 23 AP) to a 74-59 victory over Nebraska on Saturday.

Wecker added eight rebounds and four assists for the Wildcats (12-3, 3-1 Big 12), who have won three straight by an average of 25.3 points since opening conference play with a loss at Iowa State.

Kiera Hardy made five 3-pointers and scored 23 of her 29 points in the second half for the Cornhuskers (11-5, 3-1), who were coming off a triple-overtime victory Wednesday against No. 2 Baylor -- their first win over a Top 5 team.

Kansas State led by 23 with 18:54 to go before Nebraska began a comeback. Trailing 51-30, Nebraska's Jelena Spiric scored four quick points to trigger a 10-1 run that got the Cornhuskers to 52-40.

Nebraska closed to 60-51 with 4:22 remaining, but Wecker hit a jump shot and Claire Coggins scored on a fast-break layup to end the Cornhuskers' rally.

Coggins finished with 13 points, and Shana Wheeler had nine points and a career-high 11 rebounds for Kansas State.

Jina Johansen had six points and nine assists for Nebraska, which was after its best start in Big 12 play since 1987-88. Spiric finished with 10 points and five rebounds.

Kansas State jumped ahead 17-2 in the first 6:47. Wecker finished the first half with nearly as many points (17) as Nebraska, leading the Wildcats to a 37-18 halftime advantage.
