WASHINGTON (Ticker) -- Jessica Simmonds scored 17 points and
Anna Montanana added 14 as George Washington pulled off an upset
with a 69-57 victory over No. 25 Richmond in an Atlantic 10
Conference matchup.

After taking a 35-28 lead into the break, George Washington
(11-5, 4-1 Atlantic 10) opened the second half with nine
straight points to increase its advantage. Richmond climbed
within 49-46 with 8:21 remaining, but Simmonds made consecutive
baskets and Montanana hit a 3-pointer to give the Colonials a
56-47 bulge.

Montanana moved into 18th place on George Washington's all-time
scoring list with 1,049 points. The senior forward made three
3-pointers to climb into ninth place (83) and dished out three
assists to jump into seventh (384).

Kimberly Beck had 11 points and seven assists for the Colonials,
who posted their second win over a ranked opponent this season
and extended their home winning streak to 14 games.

Sophomore Kelly Roche scored a career-high 20 points and Saona
Chapman chipped in 13 for the Spiders (14-2, 5-1), who have
dropped eight straight to the Colonials and fell to 1-9 in the
all-time series.
