Arizona State 50, Oregon State 38

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- Kristen Kovesdy and Betsy Boardman each
scored 13 points as Arizona State held off Oregon State for a 50-38
Pac-10 victory Thursday night.

The 38 points represents the fewest allowed by Arizona State in
a Pac-10 game in school history.

Arizona State held Oregon State to 29.6 percent shooting. The
Beavers (5-12, 1-7) made 16 of 54 field goals in losing their
seventh of eight games.

The Sun Devils (13-5, 5-3) also held Pac-10 scoring leader
Shannon Howell to 16 points on 6 of 19 shooting. Seven of Howell's
points came in the last two minutes, with Arizona State already
leading by 11.

Howell, who averages 19.8 points per game, had scored 34 points
against Washington on Saturday and 33 against Washington State on
Jan. 13.

The team combined to shoot 23.5 percent (12 of 51) in the first
half as Arizona State took a 17-14 lead.

Neither team got into double figures until Kylan Loney's basket
with 4:30 left in the half gave the Sun Devils an 11-8 advantage.

Emily Westerberg grabbed a career-high 14 rebounds for the Sun
Devils, who outrebounded the Beavers 50-31.

After the poor first half, Arizona State made five of its first
nine shots in the second half to take a 31-18 lead. Oregon State
never got closer than eight.

With a free throw in the first half, Boardman became the 14th
Arizona State player to score 1,000 points in her career. She now
has 1,010 points.
