PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) -- Sophomore Kate Benz scored 16 points and
grabbed 14 rebounds Thursday night to lead Washington State to a
79-69 victory over California.
It was the first Pac-10 victory for the 5-14 Cougars after nine
losses to conference foes. The win ended an 11-game losing streak
for Washington State.
Joining Benz in scoring 16 points were Cougars' junior Charmaine
Jones and sophomore Adriane Ferguson.
Freshman Dani Montgomery added a career-high 11 points.
The Golden Bears (8-11, 2-8) led 42-39 at halftime, thanks to a
3-point shooting barrage by freshman Brio Rode. Rode hit three
consecutive 3-point field goals at one point to put California up
Washington State went on a 23-4 run to open the second half and
never looked back.
California seniors Leigh Gregory and Kristin Iwanaga each scored
11 points while freshmen Rode and Jessica Lawson added 10 apiece.
Cougar senior Jessica Perry had seven assists, making her the
eighth player in WSU history to record 300 career assists. She now
