FORT COLLINS, Colo. (AP) -- Melissa Dennett had 22 points and
eight rebounds and reserve Sara Hunter added 12 points as Colorado
State held off a 3-point barrage to beat Wyoming 61-51 Friday
Dennett made her first six shots before finishing 9-for-10.
Hunter was 4-for-4 on 3-pointers as Colorado State (12-6, 3-2
Mountain West Conference) won its third straight.
It was nothing compared to the perimeter attack of Wyoming
(12-6, 3-2) which abandoned its inside game, scoring eight points
in the paint while making only 10-of-41 attempts from beyond the
3-point arc. Ashley Elliott was 5-for-13 on 3-pointers and finished
with 28 points for Wyoming.
Elliott managed only three free throws in the last 7:50 after
hitting a 3-pointer to get Wyoming within 46-44. Dennett answered
with a short jumper, and her two free throws with 2:55 left ended
an 11-2 run for Colorado State to make it 57-46.
Wyoming was 0-for-4 from the field the rest of the way.
Dennett's basket at the buzzer put Colorado State ahead 33-31 at
the break. Wyoming had led 22-19 as Hanna Zavecz connected on a
pair of 3-pointers in an 11-0 run, but Colorado State closed the
half with an 11-0 run of its own.
