Montana 72, Eastern Wash. 65

MISSOULA (AP) -- Katie Edwards scored 18 points and Jody McLeod
added 13 points and 10 rebounds Saturday to lead Montana to a 72-65
victory over Eastern Washington in a battle for the lead in the Big
Sky Conference standings.

Hollie Tyler had 14 points for Montana (12-6, 5-0) which has won
19 consecutive league games.

Montana led 28-26 at halftime and built a 44-35 lead on two free
throws by Lynsey Monaco with 14:37 remaining.

Edwards hit two free throws with 11:50 remaining for a 50-43 UM

Portland State used an 11-4 run, capped by a 3-pointer by
Brandie Bounds with 8:10 remaining to tie the score at 54. Five
straight points by Julie Page gave the Eagles a 59-55 lead with
6:18 remaining.

Montana tied the score at 59 on a 3-pointer by Edwards, then two
free throws by Tyler and another basket by Edwards put the Lady
Griz up 63-59 with 4:15 remaining.

EWU got within two twice, the last time at 65-63 on a layup by
Bounds with 2:06 to play.

Edwards answered with a jumper and Monaco scored on an offensive
put-back and Montana made 3-of-4 free throws in the final 30
seconds to hold on.

Felice Moore led EWU with 18 points and seven rebounds,
including basket midway through the first half that gave the Eagles
an 18-11 lead. Page added 17 points and Bounds had 10 points, seven
rebounds and six assists.

Crystal Baird added 10 points for Montana and Monaco had 11
assists and five steals.
