NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Dee Davis scored 16 of her 23 points in
the second half to lead Vanderbilt (No. 19 ESPN/USA Today; No. 20 AP) to a 64-53 victory over
Alabama on Thursday night.
Carla Thomas added 14 points and Caroline Williams 12 for
Vanderbilt (20-6, 9-4 Southeastern Conference). Ashley Earley
finished with 12 points and 12 rebounds for her SEC-leading 12th
double-double of the season.
Marverly Nettles had 15 points and nine rebounds, Monique Bivins
finished with 12 points and Natasha Gamble added 11 points for
Alabama (13-13, 4-9).
Alabama closed within 54-47 on a basket by Nettles with 5:22
remaining, but Davis made a 3-pointer and added a pair of free
throws to extend the lead to 59-47 with 4:24 left.
Thomas' three-point play with 3:42 left gave Vanderbilt its
biggest lead at 62-49.
