CHAPEL HILL, North Carolina (Ticker) -- Ivory Latta made sure
that North Carolina cruised into its new campaign.

Latta scored 20 points and handed out seven assists as the
eighth-ranked Tar Heels rolled to an 86-48 victory over Davidson
in the season opener for both teams.

Improving to 3-0 all-time against Davidson, North Carolina took
advantage of numerous turnovers to race out to a 48-24 lead at
halftime. With the Wildcats committing eight of their 26
turnovers in the final 5:30 before the intermission, the Tar
Heels exploded for a 20-3 run.

Latta shot 7-of-12 from the floor with four 3-pointers. Erlana
Larkins, who made six of her first seven shots, scored all 12 of
her points in the first half before suffering an ankle injury.

Freshman forward Rashanda McCants added nine points and six
rebounds for North Carolina, which shot 51 percent (20-of-39) in
the opening half before cruising to its 13th consecutive win in
a home opener under coach Sylvia Hatchell.

Janell Crayton scored 13 points for Davidson, which shot 28
percent (16-of-58), including 1-of-16 on 3-pointers.
