LOGAN, Utah (AP) -- Senior Katie Edwards scored a team-high 21
points, reaching the 1,000 point career mark, to lead Montana past
Utah State 71-70 on Friday night.
Edwards became just the 23rd Lady Griz player to reach the
1,000-point mark, hitting a jumper early in the second half.
Montana (1-0) hit seven of its first eight shots to race to an
18-8 lead, and led 35-34 at the half.
The Grizzlies never trailed in the second half, but were never
able to stretch the lead to more than seven points.
Utah State (0-1) cut Montana's lead to within one point two
times in the final minute. Taylor Richards brought USU to 69-68
with less than 10 seconds to play, but Laura Cote was perfect at
the line and Utah State missed a 3-point shot with three seconds to
go that would have pulled the Aggies even.
Ali Marchant scored at the buzzer to make the final score 71-70.
Edwards was the lone Montana player to reach double figures, but
Cote and Tamara Guardipee each scored nine while Sonya Rogers and
Johanna Closson netted eight.
Montana, which was outrebounded 39-33, shot 43.5 percent from
