TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (AP) -- Cameo Hicks and Dominique Banks each scored 13 points to lead Washington to a 56-52 victory over Alabama in both teams' season opener on Friday.

The Huskies (1-0) shot just 27.9 percent from the field, but forced the Crimson Tide (0-1) to commit 19 turnovers. Hicks led Washington with nine rebounds, while Banks added six and Kristen O'Neill added 12 points and five rebounds.

"We are excited to come down here and get a win against a very good SEC team," UW head coach June Daugherty said. "This is a team that is extremely athletic, extremely well coached and we knew we would have our hands full. We feel privileged to come out of here with a win."

The score was tied twice with just under five minutes left in the game, but the Huskies pulled away each time.

The game stopped for several minutes at the 11:27 minute mark after Alabama's Navonda Moore suffered an apparent neck injury. Moore was taken away on a stretcher for immediate medical attention.

Lauren Hill led Alabama, with 17 points. She also had nine rebounds while Dee Merriweather added a double-double with 12 points and 14 rebounds.
