Maryland surges past Michigan State at Paradise Jam 

SAINT JOHN, Virgin Islands (Ticker) -- Shay Doran scored 16 points and No. 10 Maryland used a second-half surge to post a 75-61 victory over No. 9 Michigan State in the Paradise Jam.

Doran made three 3-pointers and sparked a balanced attack for Maryland. Ashleigh Newman scored 14 points, Marissa Coleman 13, Laura Harper 10 and Crystal Langhorne added 10 and 12 rebounds.

Maryland (4-0) shot 30 percent (8-of-27) in the first half but managed to stay close by making 10 free throws. The Terrapins regained their shooting touch over the final 20 minutes, shooting 56 percent (15-of-27) to pull away.

Michigan State (2-2) shot 9-of-34 (27 percent) from the field in the second half in dropping their second straight game. The Spartans lost to No. 1 Tennessee, 93-55, Thursday.

On Saturday, Maryland gets its crack at Tennessee. Michigan State faces Gonzaga.

Lindsay Bowen scored 21 points and Liz Shimek had 10 but shot just 3-of-13 from the field for Michigan State.
