Sun Devils roll past Mississippi State at Caribbean Classic

CANCUN, Mexico (AP) -- Jill Noel was 4-for-5 from 3-point range and scored 15 points to lead Arizona State (No. 14 ESPN/USA Today, No. 16 AP) to an easy 70-48 victory over Mississippi State on Saturday in the Caribbean Classic.

Long-range shooting was the difference, as Arizona State went 10-of-15 from behind the arc while Mississippi State attempted just five 3-pointers, making two.

Noe, a junior, finished 5-for-7 from the field overall, and Emily Westerberg and Amy Denson each added 13 points.

Bigger and faster, Arizona State (4-1) showed no signs of a letdown after a 79-72 loss Friday to North Carolina (No. 8 ESPN/USA Today, No. 7 AP) in Mexico. Playing stiff man-to-man defense, the Sun Devils forced 24 turnovers but also committed 15.

Mamie McKinney had eight points for Mississippi State (1-3), and Heather Hollis came off the bench to also score eight. But the Sun Devils, who opened an 18-point lead in the first half, were never really challenged.
