Utah holds off Arizona, avoids second straight loss

TUCSON (AP) -- Kim Smith had 19 points and 12 rebounds and Julie
Larsen scored 12 points on four 3-points, leading No. 23 Utah a
66-63 victory over Arizona on Saturday night.

The Utes (2-1), trying to avoid a two-game losing streak,
rallied from a seven-point deficit, moved out to a nine-point lead
and then held on for the win.

Natalie Jones led Arizona with 17 points.

Smith, one rebound shy of a double-double by halftime, made two
free throws with 21 seconds left to give the Utes a 66-62 lead.

Arizona (2-2) had closed within two on a 3-pointer by Joy
Hollingsworth 2 seconds earlier.

The Utes secured the victory by limiting Arizona to just one
free throw and defending a possible game-tying 3-pointer by Jessica
Arnold with two seconds left.
