    Vandy rolls to 15th straight Thanksgiving Tourney title

    NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) -- Carla Thomas scored 24 points and Vanderbilt (No. 22 ESPN/USA Today, No. 20 AP) defeated Colgate 72-33 on Saturday to win the Vanderbilt Thanksgiving Tournament for the 15th straight year.

    Vanderbilt (5-1) trailed 7-4 less than three minutes in and then went on a 29-0 run, capped by a basket by Cherish Stringfield with 4:17 left in the first half.

    Colgate (1-3), which missed 20 straight shots and committed nine turnovers during a 13-minute scoreless run, ended the streak on a basket by Gretchen Polinski at 3:58 and trailed 33-9.

    The Commodores led by 26 points at the break and stretched their lead to 50-20 with 13 minutes left on Caroline Williams layup. Vanderbilt led by 44 points on three different occasions in the second half, the last at 72-28 on a basket by Liz Sherwood with 1:06 remaining.

    Thomas, who scored 18 points in Vanderbilt's 83-39 win over Charleston Southern on Friday, was the tournament's MVP.

    Megan Ballard scored nine points for Colgate, which shot 14-for-67 (21 percent).
