CANCUN, Mexico (AP) -- Sophia Young had 12 points and 15 rebounds
and No. 5 Baylor extended the nation's longest winning streak to 25
games with a 75-58 victory over California on Saturday in the
Angela Tisdale added 16 points for the defending national
champions, who haven't lost since being defeated by Texas on the
road on Jan. 22.
California (4-2) kept things close through much of the first
half, but were hurt by foul trouble as the game went on. Starters
Ashley Walker and Jene Morris fouled out, as did freshman reserve
Devanei Hampton. Baylor (5-0) capitalized by converting 20 of 31
free throw attempts.
Taking a 32-28 lead into intermission, Baylor continued to pound
the ball inside, making 52 percent of its shots in the second half.
The seven-team Caribbean Classic runs through Sunday and also
features North Carolina, Arizona State, Marshall, Louisville,
Mississippi State, and TCU.
