Early 17-0 run helps North Carolina shut down TCU

CANCUN, Mexico (AP) -- North Carolina ran away from TCU in the Caribbean Classic.

Ivory Latta scored 18 points to lead the Tar Heels (No. 8 ESPN/USA Today, No. 7 AP) to a 77-54 victory Saturday, North Carolina's second win in two days.

"Our kids our in good shape and we have a good bench," coach Syvia Hatchell said. "We consistently played about 10 kids with lots of substitutions so we could keep the tempo up and keep things going well for us both offensively and defensively."

North Carolina (4-0) used a 17-0 run to take a 20-5 lead. The Tar Heels shot 60 percent from the field in the first half and 53.7 percent overall.

Latta was 7-of-10 from the field, Erlana Larkins added 14 points on 6-of-7 shooting and Camille Little scored 12 points. On Friday, Latta scored 28 points in North Carolina's 79-72 victory over Arizona State.

North Carolina made 11-of-19 3-point attempts and outrebounded TCU 38-19, with Larkins and La'Tangela Atkinson each finishing with nine.

Ashley Davis led TCU (2-2) with 14 points. TCU beat Mississippi State 72-52 on Friday.

"TCU, they were a very aggressive team. But I think we've gotten better since we've been here with our style of play," Hatchell said. "We have the philosophy that we work had and we play hard. Since we've been down here, we did a lot of fun things. But we also played well when we got on the court."
