Temple of doom: Gators hand Owls first loss this season

PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Dalila Eshe scored 20 points to lead Florida to a 58-55 victory over Temple (No. 16 ESPN/USA Today, No. 18 AP) on Saturday.

Brittany Davis scored 11 points and Sha Brooks added 10 for the Gators (5-1), who handed the Owls (6-1) their first loss of the season.

Temple, which was off to its best start since 1981-82, also had its 14-game home winning streak snapped. Kamesha Hairston led the Owls with a season-high 24 points.

The game was tied at 46 midway through the second half before Florida went on a 9-2 run to take a 55-48 lead with 4:06 remaining on a bank shot by Davis.

Temple cut it to 55-52, but a costly technical foul on Lady Comfort helped Florida make it 57-52 with 1:10 remaining. Temple closed to 58-55 with 7.9 seconds left, but Jennifer Owens missed a 3-pointer at the buzzer.

Florida took advantage of 26 Temple turnovers, 14 of them in the second half.

Florida improved to 3-0 overall against Temple.
