Murphy scores 22, makes key steal to lift USC

LOS ANGELES (Ticker) -- Eshaya Murphy's offense gave Southern Cal a lead, but it was her defense that ultimately sealed a victory for the Women of Troy.

Murphy scored 22 points and grabbed nine rebounds to lead No. 25 Southern Cal to a 65-62 victory over TCU.

A junior guard, Murphy made 8-of-15 shots from the floor, including 5-of-9 from 3-point range. She also had two steals, but none bigger than her final one.

After TCU's Natasha Lacy made a jumper to bring the Horned Frogs (2-4) within 63-62 with 21 seconds to go, Chloe Kerr made two free throws with 2.3 seconds left to restore a three-point game.

Murphy, who averages a team-high 3.2 steals per game, swiped the ensuing inbounds pass to bring an end to USC's two-game skid.

Meghan Gnekow added 12 points and six rebounds and Camile LeNoir chipped in 11 points off the bench for the Women of Troy (3-2), who shot under 36 percent (23-of-64) and committed 21 turnovers.

Lacy was the most impressive player in the game, collecting 15 points, 17 rebounds and seven assists in 34 minutes. Adrianne Ross added 21 points and five steals for TCU, which committed 23 turnovers.
