MISSOULA (AP) -- Senior Katie Edwards and sophomore Dana Conway
each scored 13 points to lead Montana past Long Beach State 58-57
on Saturday night.
Montana (4-2) held Long Beach State (4-3) to 29.6 percent
shooting and held off a late 49er rally. Edwards hit two free
throws with 11 seconds remaining to put the Lady Griz up by three,
58-55, and Long Beach settled for a two-point shot inside with less
than one second to play to end the game.
The Lady Griz never gave up the lead in the second half, but the
49ers would not go away.
After the lead reached a game-high nine points, at the 10:00
mark, Long Beach scored eight straight to pull within one with 7:58
Freshman Sonya Rogers hit a 3-pointer at the 7:02 mark to
increase the margin to four, but Long Beach was back within a
single point again at the 4:11 mark. Both teams then combined to
miss nine shots before sophomore Dana Conway hit two free throws
with 1:51 to play, making the score 56-53.
After pressuring the Lady Griz in the backcourt, the 49ers were
forced to foul with 11 seconds to play. Edwards hit both free
throws to make the score 58-55.
Long Beach got the ball to its leading scorer, but the team was
limited to two points just before the buzzer.
Besides Edwards and Conway, Rogers added 10 points for the Griz
on the strength of three 3-pointers.
Rosalyn Omoruyi had 23 points and 14 rebounds for Long Beach
