MISSOULA (AP) -- Katie Edwards and Mandy Morales each scored a
team-high 18 points in Montana's hard-fought 82-77 victory over
Santa Clara Tuesday night at Dahlberg Arena.
The game had 20 lead changes, 11 of which occurred in the first
eight minutes.
The two teams stood tied at 18-18 with 10:21 to play when
Michelle Cozad hit a 3-pointer to put the Broncos up three, 21-18.
Cozad's three started an 11-2 run that put Santa Clara (2-6) up
29-20 with 5:40 remaining.
The SCU lead was still nine points, 31-22, before Montana (5-2)
closed the half on a 14-7 run, pulling within 38-36 at the break.
The back-and-forth continued in the second half, with nine lead
changes and 11 ties.
Jody McLeod had a big game for Montana, finishing with 16 points
and nine boards, both season highs. Edwards matched a career high
with eight rebounds, and Johanna Closson finished with 10 points
and eight rebounds.
Ashley Gonnerman scored a game-high 27 point for the Broncos,
while Tracey Walker scored 16.
Montana shot 42.9 percent to SCU's 40.5 percent and had a 46-43
rebounding advantage.
The Lady Griz got to the free throw line 40 times, connecting on
28, while the Broncos were 7-for-9.
Montana continues its three-game homestand Friday against 7-1
Miami. Game time is 7:05 p.m.
