STARKVILLE, Miss. (AP) -- Katie Gearlds had 15 points and Purdue (No. 20 ESPN/USA Today, No. 21 AP) beat Mississippi State 61-42 in the championship game of the
Mississippi State Classic on Tuesday night.
Erin Lawless added 14 points and Natasha Bogdanova had 11
rebounds for the Boilermakers (8-2), who led 35-12 at halftime and
went on to win their fourth straight.
Marneshia Richard led the Bulldogs (4-7) with 12 points.
Purdue opened the game with a 20-4 run and led by as many as 27
while playing tough defense for the second straight night.
The Boilermakers held Mississippi State to 25 percent shooting
and forcing 28 turnovers. Purdue has forced eight of its 10
opponents into at least 20 turnovers.
