CORAL GABLES, Florida (Ticker) -- Tamara Jones scored 26 points
on 10-of-13 shooting as Miami upset No. 25 Mississippi in the
championship game of the Hurricane Holiday Classic, 79-70.
Jones, who fell two rebounds shy of her fifth double-double of
the season, shot 4-of-5 from the arc. She finished 22-of-25
from the field in the two-day event, earning tournament MVP
Renee Taylor scored 14 points and handed out nine assists while
Lamese James added 10 points for the Hurricanes (10-2), which
shot 55 percent (17-of-31) in the second half to make sure a
36-31 halftime lead held up.
Missing all nine of their 3-pointers in the first half, the Lady
Rebels (10-3) could not make up for a 42-percent (30-of-72)
effort from the floor despite 17 offensive rebounds, mustering
only nine second-chance points.
Armintie Price scored 24 points on 11-of-18 shooting and pulled
down nine rebounds for Mississippi, which lost for the second
time in three games.
Second-leading scorer Ashley Johnson could not get it going for
the Lady Rebels, finishing 0-of-11 with three points.
