Jones scores 26 as Miami knocks off Ole Miss

CORAL GABLES, Florida (Ticker) -- Tamara Jones scored 26 points on 10-of-13 shooting as Miami upset No. 25 Mississippi in the championship game of the Hurricane Holiday Classic, 79-70.

Jones, who fell two rebounds shy of her fifth double-double of the season, shot 4-of-5 from the arc. She finished 22-of-25 from the field in the two-day event, earning tournament MVP honors.

Renee Taylor scored 14 points and handed out nine assists while Lamese James added 10 points for the Hurricanes (10-2), which shot 55 percent (17-of-31) in the second half to make sure a 36-31 halftime lead held up.

Missing all nine of their 3-pointers in the first half, the Lady Rebels (10-3) could not make up for a 42-percent (30-of-72) effort from the floor despite 17 offensive rebounds, mustering only nine second-chance points.

Armintie Price scored 24 points on 11-of-18 shooting and pulled down nine rebounds for Mississippi, which lost for the second time in three games.

Second-leading scorer Ashley Johnson could not get it going for the Lady Rebels, finishing 0-of-11 with three points.
