GAINESVILLE, Florida (Ticker) -- Brittany Davis scored 16
points and Sha Brooks added 14 to as No. 25 Florida used a
strong second half to post a 59-44 comeback victory over Alabama
in the Southeastern Conference opener for both teams.
Davis shot 8-of-14 from the floor and Brooks connected on four
shots from long range overall for the Lady Gators (13-1, 1-0),
who shot 30 percent (9-of-30) in the first half, leading to a
28-19 deficit at the break.
They responded after halftime by hitting 52 percent (15-of-29)
of their shots - including 6-of-15 from beyond the arc - to outscore
the Crimson Tide, 40-16, in the final 20 minutes and gain their
11th straight win.
Dalila Eshe added 11 points and 14 rebounds for Florida, which
held Alabama (6-8, 0-1) to 25 percent (7-of-28) shooting in the
Marverly Nettles had 12 points and Kate Mastin collected 11 for
the Crimson Tide, who committed 26 turnovers. Dee Merriweather
scored eight points and grabbed 14 boards and Krystle Johnson
pulled down 10 rebounds.
The Lady Gators held the Crimson Tide to 0-of-10 from long range
after the break.
