MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Khara Smith matched a season high with 29 points and added 10 rebounds to lead No. 13 DePaul to its eighth-straight victory, a dominating 67-52 win over Marquette on Saturday night.

DePaul never trailed after the Golden Eagles hit the opening basket, and led by as many as 21 points.

The Blue Demons (15-1, 2-1 Big East) matched their best 16-game start in school history. The 2003-04 Blue Demons started 18-1.

Marquette (10-3, 0-2) has lost its last two games.

Both teams are in their first season in the Big East Conference after leaving Conference USA following last season.

DePaul started quickly and rolled from there, using full-court pressure defense to spark a 14-0 run that broke a 7-7 tie.

Marquette made just three of its first 15 shots and scored 17 first-half points, their lowest in a half this season.

The Golden Eagles had 16 first-half turnovers and 23 in the game.

The Blue Demons began the second half on a 10-2 run and remained in control, as Marquette got no closer than 13 points after halftime.

Freshman Krystal Ellis had a career-high 17 points to lead Marquette. Carolyn Kieger added 11.

Allie Quigley had 14 points for DePaul.

Smith, who averages 18 points per game, has averaged 27.7 in her last three contests. She had 29 in an 81-75 victory over Pittsburgh last Saturday and 25 in an 84-74 win over Missouri State Dec. 28.

Marquette made just 25.9 percent of its shots.
