in a row against a ranked Big East opponent. It didn't happen.
Renee Montgomery scored 20 points to lead four Connecticut
starters in double figures, and the No. 7 Huskies beat the Pirates
93-53 on Tuesday night.Mel Thomas added 16 points, Ann Strother had 14 and Nicole Wolff
scored 10 for Connecticut (13-2, 3-0 Big East), which shot 60
percent from the field.Seton Hall, coming off a road victory against then-No. 12 Notre
Dame, stayed close for most of the first half. Freshman Shantel
Brown's 3-pointer pulled the Pirates (5-9, 2-1) within 27-21 with 5
minutes remaining, before the Huskies went on an 11-2 run to take a
15-point lead at the break."We had our chances to stay in the game in the first half,"
Seton Hall coach Phyllis Mangini said. "We missed some
opportunities.Heta Korpivaara led the Pirates with 17 points. Jadis Rhodin and
Monique Blake each added 12. Seton Hall shot just 35 percent,
including 3-of-19 from 3-point range."It's a tough place to play. They always play us tough here,"
Strother said.Montgomery was 8-of-11, including 3-of-4 from 3-point range, in
only 21 minutes.The Huskies used superior team speed to create scoring
opportunities, responding with a 32-7 run after Jadis Rhodin hit
consecutive jumpers to pull Seton Hall to within 49-35 with 15:35
