TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) -- Mandy Close scored a career-high 24 points
as Oregon State broke a 16-game losing streak in Pac-10 play with a
64-48 victory over Arizona on Thursday night.
Close connected on 10 of 19 shots, including a trio of
three-pointers to give the Beavers (7-6, 1-4 Pac-10) their first
conference win since an 83-55 victory over Washington State on Jan.
13, 2005.Close's 16-foot jumper with 9:56 remaining put Oregon State
ahead to stay at 39-38. She had 14 points during an 18-4 run that
helped the Beavers end a five-game losing skid.Oregon State, which had lost five straight games this season
heading into the game, outscored Arizona 38-24 in the second half
and limited the Wildcats overall to shoot 25 percent shooting from
the field.The Wildcats (5-11, 1-5), have now lost nine of their last 10
games. Natalie Jones scored 15 points for Arizona while Joy
Hollingsworth added 13.
