MISSOULA (AP) -- Katie Edwards scored a career-high 28 points and
grabbed a career-high nine rebounds in Montana's 78-59 victory over
Sacramento State Saturday night.
Edwards made 10-of-15 shots, including 7-of-8 from 3-point
range, to spark the Lady Griz (13-3, 3-1 Big Sky). Edwards also had
Mandy Morales added 15 points while Jody McLeod had 11 rebounds
for the Lady Griz, who outrebounded the Hornets 47-27.
Montana never trailed, jumping out to a quick 7-0 lead less than
three minutes into the game on two inside baskets by freshman
Tamara Guardipee and Edwards' first 3-pointer.
The Lady Griz slowly built their lead to 33-20 on a layup by
Morales with 2:07 to lay and led 36-26 at halftime.
The Hornets (6-10, 1-3) cut the lead to eight on two occasions
early in the second half, but Montana used a 12-2 run, capped by
back-to-back 3-pointers from Edwards, to take a 54-36 lead. The
Lady Griz weren't challenged again.
Montana made 11-of-23 3-pointers.
Cindy Alldrin had 13 points for Sacramento State while Lindsay
Calmettes has 12, all on 3-pointers.
