Late free throws give UMass upset win over No. 25 GW

AMHERST, Mass. (AP) -- Kate Mills had 13 points, including the winning free throws with 10 seconds left, to lift Massachusetts to a 55-53 upset over No. 25 George Washington on Sunday.

UMass (5-13, 2-5 Atlantic 10) overcame a six-point deficit in the final 4 minutes for its first win against a ranked team since it beat No. 22 Stanford on Dec. 12, 1999.

Pam Rosanio had a game-high 17 points for UMass, while Mills added 11 rebounds.

Kimberly Beck led the Colonials (12-5, 5-1) with 14 points. Her 3-pointer tied the game at 53 with 42 seconds left.

Mills went to the line after she pulled down an offensive rebound and was fouled. Beck missed a running jumper from just inside the 3-point line.

The Colonials used an 8-0 run to end the first half with a 25-19 lead. UMass began the second half on a 13-4 run to take a 32-29 lead with 15:54 left.

    UMass outrebounded the Colonials 43-28.
