Free throws, 3-pointers key to California win over USC

LOS ANGELES (AP) -- Alexis Gray-Lawson scored 19 points, including four 3-pointers, to lead California to a 72-67 victory over USC (No. 25 ESPN/USA Today, No. 23 AP) on Friday night.

California (14-6, 6-4) had four players score in double figures and never trailed.

Chloe Kerr led USC with 18 points, 12 in the second half. The loss snaps a five-game winning streak for USC (13-6, 7-3).

California led by as much as 10 in the second half, but USC cut into the lead to make it a three point game in the final minute. Cal, however, was sharp from the free-throw line and secured the win.

California also had 17 points from Jene Morris, 15 from Ashley Walker and 11 from Devanei Hampton.

Eshaya Murphy added 17 points for USC.

The Trojans outrebounded the Bears 40-31 in the game, but shot just 41 percent from the floor, compared to California's 52 percent from the field.
