PULLMAN, Wash. (AP) -- Keisha Moore scored a career-high 28
points and Kate Benz added 24 as Washington State beat Arizona
84-77 Saturday afternoon at Friel Court.
The win was the first for the Cougars (7-13, 1-10 Pac-10) in 13
games and their first conference victory in 15 games.
Arizona (7-14, 3-8) was led by Natalie Jones with 28 points. She
is the 14th Arizona player to score over 1,000 points in a career.
She has 1,006 points to rank 13th in school history.
Ashley Whisonant and Joy Hollingsworth each added 15 points as
the Wildcats dropped their second straight. They are now 1-8 on the
road this season, including 1-5 in conference road games.
Washington State, now 6-77 in Pac-10 games the past five
seasons, opened with an 11-2 start just as it did in its loss to
Arizona State on Thursday.
On Saturday, however, the Cougars got the ball inside to Moore
and Benz to come away with a victory.
Moore was 9-for-13 from the field and 10-for-13 at the
free-throw line. She set a new career high with 12 rebounds. Benz,
the Pac-10 leader in rebounds, grabbed 11 boards and was 8-for-9 at
the free-throw line. Washington State freshman Amanda DuRocher sank
three 3-pointers and scored 10 points.
Washington State took a 31-29 lead in the first half on two free
throws by Moore.
The Wildcats remained close for most of the second half,
narrowing the deficit to 80-75 with 43 seconds remaining, when they
were forced to foul.
