BYU beats San Diego St., stays perfect on road

SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Ambrosia Anderson had 17 points and 10 rebounds, and Mallary Gillespie scored 13 points to lead No. 21 BYU to a 67-49 victory over San Diego State on Wednesday night.

Lauren Riley had 12 points and Dani Kubik added 10 points and 10 rebounds for the Cougars (21-3, 11-2 Mountain West), who improved to 12-0 on the road this season.

Desiree Johnson scored a career-high 19 points, and Michelle Strawberry added 15 for the Aztecs (3-21, 0-14).

The game was close early on, with Anderson's layup 4½ minutes into the game giving BYU the lead for good at 8-6. The Cougars didn't begin pulling away until Riley's free throw with 12:39 left started a 12-3 run over nearly 5 minutes that stretched their lead to 24-13.

Strawberry's 3-pointer cut San Diego State's deficit to 29-23 with 2:47 left in the opening half, but that was as close as it got.

BYU led 34-25 at the break, and Anderson's 3 just 30 seconds into the second half started a 7-0 run that gave the Cougars a double-digit lead for good.

BYU shot 48 percent from the field (27-for-56), while limiting San Diego State to 32 percent (18-for-56).
