ANN ARBOR, Mich. (AP) -- Liz Shimek had 22 points, moving into
second place on Michigan State's career scoring mark, and the
Spartans (No. 16 ESPN/USA Today; No. 14 AP) beat Michigan 68-42 on Thursday night.
Lindsay Bowen scored 11 points, remaining No. 1 on the scoring
list, for the Spartans (21-8, 11-5 Big Ten), who finished the
regular season with no worse than a third-place tie in the league.
Entering the Big Ten tournament next week, Bowen has 1,685
career points -- three ahead of Shimek.
Janelle Cooper had 18 points for the Wolverines (6-21, 0-15),
who remained winless since Dec. 23.
Shimek had 14 first-half points on 7-of-9 shooting as the
Spartans built a 28-14 advantage. Michigan shot just 24 percent
from the field in the first 20 minutes.
Leading 34-23, Michigan State broke the game open with a 16-4
surge. The lead grew to 27 points in the closing minutes.
