Georgia reaches 20-win mark with victory vs. Auburn

ATHENS, Ga. (AP) -- Tasha Humphrey scored 22 points and grabbed 10 rebounds to lead Georgia (No. 12 ESPN/USA Today, No. 13 AP) to a 74-61 win Sunday over Auburn in the regular-season finale for both teams.

Sherill Baker also scored 22 for the Bulldogs (20-7, 10-4 Southeastern Conference), who posted their 22nd 20-win season under coach Andy Landers.

Georgia made 11 3-pointers, two shy of the school record.

Freshman center KeKe Carrier scored 26 points and had nine rebounds to lead the Tigers (13-14, 4-10), who have lost six of seven games in February.

Georgia took an early 20-10 lead on a rare 3-pointer by Baker, while Auburn turned the ball over eight times in the first eight minutes.

Megan Darrah and Humphrey sandwiched 3s around a breakaway layup by Baker to push the lead to 33-17 with 8:09 to play. Marita Payne scored a pair of baskets down low, and Whitney Boddie scored in the lane as Auburn narrowed the gap to 38-27 with 4:26 left in the half.

Georgia hit eight 3-point shots in the first half en route to a 45-30 halftime lead.

Auburn worked the ball inside in the second half. In a 14-3 run, Carrier scored 11 points in five minutes to close to 52-48 with 11:12 left.

But Georgia used a 10-2 surge to stretch the lead to 62-50 with 8:38 remaining. Auburn trailed by nine with 1:51 to play after a putback by Carrier but was held scoreless the remainder of the game.

Georgia had already clinched the third seed and will have a first-round bye next weekend in the SEC tournament in Little Rock, Ark.
