UCLA 80, California 63

SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) -- Noelle Quinn had 18 points and 10
rebounds and Nikki Blue set a tournament record with 11 assists in
helping UCLA beat California 80-63 in the quarterfinals of the
Pac-10 tournament on Saturday.

Lisa Willis had 14 points as the Bruins (18-10) won their third
straight and eight of 10 overall. Chinyere Ibekwe scored 10.

UCLA advances to Sunday's semifinals against the winner of a
later game between second-seeded Arizona State and No. 7 seed
Oregon State. Blue added 14 points to record her eighth career
double-double.

Devanei Hampton had 23 points and 14 rebounds for the Bears
(18-11), who had won three of their previous four. Alexis
Gray-Lawson added 13.

Quinn and Hampton each recorded their Pac-10 leading ninth
double-double.

Cal recorded its first winning season in 13 years. The Bears had
been eliminated by top-seeded Stanford in each of the past three
tournaments in the quarterfinals. UCLA and Cal last met in the
first women's tournament in 2002, with the Bruins winning.

The more experienced Bruins, who start two seniors and two
juniors, overwhelmed the youthful Bears with speed and a pressure
defense. UCLA set a tournament record with 20 steals in the game.
Willis had seven steals, six in the first half.

Cal starts four freshmen -- including the point guard -- and a
senior.

The Bruins went on a 17-4 run midway through the second half and
led by as many as 21 points.

Both teams shot well in the first half. The Bruins made nine of
their first 14 shots while the Bears sank six of their first 10.

The difference was UCLA's defense, which forced 16 turnovers in
the half. The Bruins led by as many as 12 before settling for a
39-29 halftime advantage.
