    Westerberg helps Arizona State take down Nebraska

    TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) -- Emily Westerberg scored 20 points and Jill Noe added 15 points and nine rebounds to help Arizona State (No. 12 ESPN/USA Today, No. 13 AP) open its season with an 87-60 victory over Nebraska on Friday night.

    The Sun Devils will face No. 18 New Mexico on Sunday in the next round of the three-day ASU Veteran's Day Classic tournament. The Lobos beat Florida Atlantic 74-44 Friday.

    Danielle Orsillo added 13 points for the Sun Devils in the first meeting of the two schools since 1994. Arizona State has won 23 consecutive regular-season home games and nine straight season openers.

    Westerberg was 9-of-12 shots from the field and Noe was 6-for-8, including 3-of-5 on 3-pointers.

    Leading 24-21 midway through the first half, Arizona State went on a 22-13 run to close out the half with a 46-34 lead.

    The Cornhuskers closed to 56-46 with 11:50 left but got no closer.

    Kelsey Griffin led Nebraska with 17 points and seven rebounds. Kiera Hardy and Chelsea Aubry each added nine points.

    The Cornhuskers made just 40 percent of their field goals in their opener and committed 24 turnovers.
