Indiana upsets Kentucky to win Women's Sports tourney

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) -- Jamie Braun scored 18 points, including the final seven by her team, to lead Indiana to a 54-51 victory over Kentucky (No. 16 ESPN/USA Today, No. 15 AP) on Sunday for the championship of the Women's Sports Foundation Tournament.

Wake Forest (1-1) beat Washington State (0-2) 45-37 in the consolation game of the four-team tournament.

With the score 47-47, Braun hit consecutive 3-pointers to put the Hoosiers ahead for good. She finished with nine rebounds.

Indiana (2-0) recorded its sixth straight victory against Kentucky (1-1), which opened the season ranked in the preseason poll for the first time.

Carly Ormerod led the Wildcats with 14 points and scored the team's last two points when she made two free throws with 27.3 seconds remaining. Jennifer Humphrey added 12 rebounds and Sarah Elliott had 13 rebounds for Kentucky, which led by as many as 13 points in the first half.

Indiana's Carrie Smith, who finished with 10 points and six rebounds, left the game with less than nine minutes remaining after banging her left knee and didn't return.

The Wildcats were down by five in the second half and tied it 47-47 when Sam Mahoney made two free throws. The Wildcats made just three of their first 25 field goals in the second half. Kentucky shot just 15 percent while missing all eight of its 3-pointers in the second half and shot 25 percent for the game.

The Hoosiers erased a 32-26 halftime deficit with consecutive 3-pointers from Smith and Kim Roberson, tying the score at 32 in the opening minutes of the second half.
