    DeHaan swats record eight blocks to lift Michigan State

    EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) -- Mia Johnson and Aisha Jefferson scored 16 points each Sunday to lift No. 17 Michigan State to a 65-49 victory over Texas-Arlington.

    Johnson was 4-for-5 from the field, made all eight of her first-half free throws and added seven assists and five steals for the Spartans (2-0). Jefferson was 7-for-11 from the field and grabbed six rebounds but wasn't dominant inside.

    Allyssa DeHaan, a 6-foot-9 freshman, came alive in the second half and finished with 11 points, 11 rebounds and a school-record eight blocks.

    Erin Dixon came off the bench to lead the Mavericks (2-1) with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Ashley Bobb had 10 points.

    The Spartans trailed 11-5 before their defensive pressure helped produce 16 straight points. They led 33-23 at halftime thanks to a 15-3 edge in free throws.
