No. 21 George Washington downs James Madison

WASHINGTON (AP) -- Jessica Adair scored 16 points and had a career-high 14 rebounds Saturday to lead George Washington (No. 21 ESPN/USA Today, No. 23 AP) to a 68-56 win over visiting James Madison.

Whitney Allen added 12 points, Sarah Jo-Lawrence and Kimberly Beck chipped in with 11 each and Kenan Cole had 10 for the Colonials (5-1). Jazmine Adair, Jessica's twin sister, hit a layup with 8:42 remaining to put George Washington ahead for good.

The Colonials, who trailed by as many as 16 early in the first half, held the Dukes (2-1) to just 20 percent (7-for-35) from the field in the second half.

George Washington's win follows its first loss of the season, a 73-48 defeat by top-ranked Maryland last Sunday.

James Madison was led by Meredith Alexis, who had 19 of her 25 points before halftime. Lesley Dickinson added 16 for the Dukes.

The Colonials overcame a first-half deficit with a 16-2 run late in the first half and early in the second. The Dukes clawed back to take a 49-46 lead on Tamera Young's jumper with 10:18 left, but George Washington scored eight straight points to take a 54-49 lead with 6:14 to play.
