SAN ANTONIO (AP) -- LSU coach Pokey Chatman wasn't surprised that
Mesha Williams' career game off the bench Saturday.
Not when she's seen Williams improving each day.No. 9 LSU got 19 points and 12 rebounds from its junior center
and the Tigers scored an easy 105-52 victory over Eastern
Washington on Saturday. It was the second victory of the weekend
for LSU (7-1) at the Texas-San Antonio Thanksgiving Classic."You can see her making progress," Chatman said of Williams,
who transferred to LSU this season.Sylvia Fowles added 17 points and seven rebounds for LSU, and
Quianna Chaney had 11 points. Erica White and Ashley Thomas chipped
in 10 apiece."Coach told us to just come out and work hard," said Williams.
"Everybody participated and everybody came through."Katy Baker led Eastern Washington (3-3) with 12 points. Ashley
Knight and Brittney Osborn added eight apiece.LSU went on an 18-0 run to go up 35-7 midway through the first
half.Fowles, a 6-foot-6 junior, had 12 during the half and Williams
added 11 to put LSU ahead 56-19 at the break, when LSU had 32
rebounds to Eastern Washington's 13.Eight fast points from Chaney -- including two 3-pointers --
helped LSU take a 50-point lead 5 minutes into the second half. The lead got bigger from there. With just over 4 minutes left in
the game, Khalilah Mitchell buried a 3-pointer to give LSU a 101-41
lead.LSU ended up with 52 rebounds to 27 from Eastern Washington,
which shot 31 percent from the field and 94 percent from the foul
line.Chatman said LSU's 53 percent shooting from the field was an
improvement and more important than the Tigers scoring in the
triple-digits."(Breaking 100) gives confidence," Chatman said. "But it's
just the shots going in. ... We've been struggling with knocking
down shots the last few games."
